A Legacy of Restoration
The founders of Mosaic Private Sanctuary on the Hermanus Lagoon, Breese and Kathryn Johnson, announced the ownership transfer of the five-star private getaway, Mosaic Lagoon Lodge, to long-time associate Maryke De Villiers.
Maryke, with over six years of experience at Mosaic, brings a wealth of skills, energy, and vision to continue the tradition of providing an exceptional retreat and ecological experience for guests.
From the beginning, the Johnsons from Tennessee, USA, envisioned Mosaic as more than just a luxury lodge. They bought the 1,000-hectare property in 2002 when it was being overrun by ecologically destructive invasive vegetation.
Their mission was to restore the biodiversity of this fragile ecosystem and develop guest accommodations, offering visitors from around the world a chance to appreciate this fascinating part of South Africa.
Almost two decades later, Maryke continues this legacy of renewal and restoration.
The ethos of Mosaic is threefold:
- Renewal: Providing a rejuvenating experience for guests.
- Restoration: Supporting local community upliftment through job creation and education.
- Ecosystem: Rehabilitating the Cape Floral Kingdom, a critical part of South Africa’s biodiversity.
